Biography

Paul Fultz is a retired Partner of KPMG LLP with more than 30 years of experience advising public company boards, audit committees, and executive leadership teams on financial reporting, governance, and risk management. Throughout his career, he served as a Lead Audit Partner and SEC Reviewing Partner for more than 25 public companies, providing guidance on complex transactions, including initial public offerings, acquisitions, and capital markets activities. Mr. Fultz served as Business Unit Professional Practice Partner, where he oversaw audit quality and risk management across a multi-office practice and advised on significant accounting, regulatory, and compliance matters. He also held leadership roles as Office Managing Partner in Louisville, Kentucky, and National Restaurant Segment Leader, demonstrating a strong track record in market leadership, client development, and team management. In addition to his professional experience, Mr. Fultz has significant board and governance experience through his service on nonprofit and advisory boards, where he has contributed to finance oversight, strategic planning, and organizational leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Louisville and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Mr. Fultz brings deep expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management to the First Merchants’ Board, along with seasoned judgment and a practical, governance-focused perspective.
